The health benefits of working out are no secret. A good workout routine helps maintain a healthy heart, lungs, and keeps our bodies looking great. One thing that people may not know is the benefits an active lifestyle can produce for our skin. If you need another reason to improve your health besides cardiovascular health, consider working out for the benefit of your skin.
When working out you are promoting better circulation. By increasing blood flow, exercise will help to keep skin cells nourished and healthy. Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to all cells in the body, including skin. Not only will this provide nourishment to the skin cells, but increased blood flow will also help your body to collect waste materials including free radicals, from those skin cells. Usually this is the job for the liver and kidneys, but during exercise you will help your liver and kidneys by flushing cellular debris out of the system. If you are suffering from conditions such as acne, or rosacea, exercise can help out with those skin complications.
Decreasing Stress and Improving Skin Conditions
Exercise does more than just flush out waste from cells. An active lifestyle can also be utilized to relieve stress. By decreasing stress, skin conditions will improve for a few reasons. First, stress hormones directly affect the sebaceous glands, which produce the oil in the skin. By limiting stress you are limiting the amount of oils produced for your skin. Therefore conditions like acne will be less prevalent. Next people often have trouble dealing with stress, so when stress builds up we tend to function irregularly. This includes not keeping up good hygiene habits, or can even lead to picking and scratching at our skin. Exercising to relieve stress is a great way to help the overall health of your skin.
UV Rays Health and Skin Health Risk
Of course with all the benefits exercise has for your skin, there are risks that come with them. The main health risk for your skin, is power UV rays from the sun. If you exercise outside, it is extremely important to apply sunscreen, each and every time you are working out. A failure to do so can result in blisters, sunburn, peeling skin, and even long term effects like skin cancer. Other health risks can be associated with a lack of hygiene after exercising. If you fail to practice healthy hygiene habits, a build up of sweat, dirt, and oil can lead to acne, athletes foot, jock itch, or other skin infections. When releasing all the build up of waste matter make sure to wash your body afterwards.
The health benefits of skin are worth exercising. For best results when working out, it is recommend to exercise early in the morning. This discourages procrastination, and then immediately afterwards you can shower and feel better throughout the day. If you are going to take the time to exercise to benefit your health, make sure you maintain proper hygiene habits, and you will begin to notice more radiant skin.
