The FBI has released almost 70 pages of reports centered around UFO’s in their new, open to the public, website called “The Vault.” Handwritten notes, newspaper clippings and drawings can be found interspersed throughout the typed letters. From sightings of unidentified flying objects spotted over various states, to how agents investigated and responded to those sightings, and even letters from J. Edgar Hoover, the documents are a veritable smorgasbord of information for UFO seekers. But amidst all of the, sometimes difficult to read, reports, two letters have already caught the eyes of the public.
First is the letter concerning a hexagonal shaped flying disc, reported to have been attached by a cable to a 20 foot diameter balloon, that had crashed in Roswell, New Mexico. It was stated that the objects appeared to resemble a weather balloon with a radar reflector, although there may have been some disagreement between the offices as to what exactly it was. As the press had picked up the story and were attempting to break the news and location of the downed unidentified flying object, the disc and balloon were transported via a special plane to Wright Field for further examination. They added a note that any results would be sent to the Cincinnati office, however the letter ends with the line “No further investigation being continued.”
The second letter that is causing quite the stir is a report from Guy Hottel addressed to the Director of the FBI. In this report, dated March 22, 1950, an Air Force Investigator states that three flying saucers had been recovered in New Mexico. The saucers were described as being “circular in shape with raised centers, approximately 50 feet in diameter.” But what has really sparked curiosity is what was purported to be inside those UFO’s. Three, human-shaped, 3 foot tall bodies dressed in suits similar to those of test pilots and speed flyers. What happened to those bodies is not included in the report, although the informant claims the saucers were brought down due to high-powered radar in the area that interferes with the UFO’s controlling mechanisms.
Further information may be needed to determine the origin of the saucers and crew. While that answer is left open, many could speculate that the origins could still be Earth. Investigations into government programs and military operations that included little people in their testing of new types of aircraft may bring more answers to light in the following months.
