In a decade long career, Andy Roddick has seen both-exasperating lows and incredible highs. The greatest high, however, came in last year’s epic final, touted as one of the greatest Wimbledon finals ever, when Federer being pushed to the brink by Roddick finally survived his performance of life and ended Roddick’s incredible resistance by sealing the record final set by 16-14.

It wasn’t the end result that mattered as it was one of those matches where only tennis won. What stood out were Roddick’s never say die attitude and the grace with which he accepted his defeat.

Emergency room visits due to the abuse of prescription painkillers have more than doubled since 2004, according to a recent research by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The situation is alarming and warrants an urgent action, said Dr. Thomas Frieden, Director, CDC.

Nonmedical use of these prescription medicines have now become as common as illicit drugs, he noted in a report published in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, June 18 Issue. Proper and safe use of prescription painkillers need to be ensured, he stressed. The phenomenon is putting a pressure on health care system, said Pamela Hyde, SAMHSA Administrator.

The Federal Communications Commission is set to start process for regulatory control over broadband. The commission voted 3-2 on Thursday in favor of a resolution to seek public comment on its new regulatory framework, called Third Way. The framework proposes to put broadband Internet on a footing similar to telephone, and enable the FCC to exercise authority over Internet service providers.

Long since, the FCC is allowing the broadband services to exist in virtually free regulatory environment in order to encourage Internet use.

Even as Fed Chairman Bernanke has ruled as any possibility of double-dip recession, stock market decline, high unemployment and European debt crisis have left the officials worried about the likely impact these may have on U.S. economy. When the Fed officials meet to take stock of the economy next week, discussion may take place on measures to be taken if the recovery falls off-track.

If the crisis in Europe worsens enough to affect global stock markets, problems for the U.S. economy could be accentuated, said Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago President Charles Evans last week. Brian Sack, the New York Fed's markets group chief also talked about “two-sided” risks to the economy-low growth and low inflation. The European debt crisis is serious and it is not known how it would unfold, said St. Louis Fed president James Bullard.

This vast ocean covered 33 percent of the Mars surface in northern hemisphere nearly 3.5 billion years ago and might have supported life. The scientists came to the conclusion after studying water related features such as river valleys and delta deposits.

James N. Wood, President and Chief Executive Officer of J. Paul Getty Trust passed away at his Los Angeles residence late on Friday night. He was 69. His demise was announced by Mark S. Siegel, chairman of the board of trustees on Saturday. He was keeping a good health and his death, which is said to be of natural causes, was unexpected and sudden.

Wood, a renowned former museum director, took over Getty Trust as president in 2006 at a time when the trust was facing unprecedented financial upheavals. Siegel, in his statement on Saturday, paid rich tribute to Wood’s contributions during his three year tenure. He emphasized collaboration between the trust’s museum, research and foundation and conservation institutes, he said. “He further enhanced the institution's already strong worldwide reputation," Siegel added.

Google has written to three U.S. congressmen stating that its accidental sniffing of private data from Wi-Fi networks across the globe didn’t breach any U.S. law. The letter was released by the congressmen, who are demanding a Federal Trade Commission inquiry into the incident, on Friday. The letter reiterated Google’s contention that the act was unintentional and committed accidentally.

The Internet search giant last month admitted that its Street View vans, which gather information for Google Earth and Google Maps, inadvertently collected data from Wi-Fi hotspots in dozens of countries about what users were accessing on Internet. The activity came to light after German authorities questioned about the data these Street View vans were collecting. The operation which spanned over a period of three years created a storm about the company’s conduct in the matters of privacy.
