What are the chances that you will find the person you will be with for the rest of your life at an online dating site? The numbers are slightly more in your favor than meeting someone at work, church, the grocery store and 100% better than you just sitting at home or hiding under a rock. Is online dating safe though? Right now, online dating can be as safe as any other date, unless you’ve known the person for more than a year, your chances of running into Mr. or Ms. Trouble is roughly the same.
In order to make sure you stay safe, there are a few things to remember. Never use your full name, at least not right away. Don’t tell the person exactly where you live or work or publicize those addresses. Always trust your gut. If you get a strange feeling about someone, don’t stay in contact with them. The simplest way to stay safe is to use common sense. Online dating safety isn’t too different from internet safety. Be yourself, talk to lots of people until you find what you are looking for.
