One of the most popular Netflix features is the ability to watch streaming videos online. The online catalog offers over 10,000 movies and TV that are available to instantly watch. Currently only one third of these shows have closed captioning.
Recently Netflix has announced that they plan on creating subtitles for more of these online streaming options. Neil Hunt, the Chief Product Officer, has posted on a blog that the company plans on having 80 percent of its instant content subtitles ready by the end of the year. This would mean approximately 8000 of the shows and movies already online.
Some experts believe that these numbers are far reaching and not likely to be achieved by the end of 2011. At the current pace that Netflix is adding closed captioning, a blog commenter, Mike Chapman, thinks it will take the company until 2024 to get 80 percent of the works close captioned ready.
