Microsoft And AT&T Joined Forces To Unveil Windows Phone 7 Smartphones on October 11

Microsoft is expected to officially unveil its first smartphone that is powered buy the highly anticipated Windows Phone 7 OS at an event in New York on Oct. 11, according to Wall Street Journal report, which cited people familiar with the Microsoft’s plans.

The WSJ report also suggested that AT&T, which will be the exclusive carrier for the Windows Phone 7 smartphones in the US, will launch the smartphones during the week beginning 8 November and will initially carry one model each from Samsung, LG, and HTC.

The debut of the windows Phone 7 OS as well as the smartphones running on it is vital for the company as it faces tough competition in the market from Apple’s highly popular iPhone and Google’s hordes of Android devices.

On the other hand, according to Gartner, Microsoft’s OS market share will slip to 4.7 percent this year from 8.7 percent last year.
