A lot of computer companies have speculated to create a digital media tablet using Google’s Android operating system, but LG could be one of the first to actually bring one to the retail market.
According to a Wall Street Journal report, LG confirmed today that in aside in working on a new tablet computer powered by a modified version of Windows 7, the company also creating one of the country’s first Android tablets.
The tablet computer market, once a niche, widely underrated segment of the consumer electronics industry, has been hurled to the forefront with the launch of Apple’s iPad. The iPad successfully sold more than 3 million units within just a couple months.
Competing devices are still in progress and haven’t really materialized yet, and some high-profile projects have even been canceled, but there are bound to be some competitors that will show up over the next several months.
However, LG did not confirm or provide any details regarding the price or any technical specs for the Android tablet, but the company said it should be available for purchase before the year ends.
