Mashable reported that Foursquare, the social networking site, has reached a staggering three million user milestone over the weekend, only two months after the original location-based service reached the two million users mark last month.
Technical expert said that the recently launched Facebook location check-in feature called Places would ‘kill’ Foursquare. But it wasn’t like that. The n ew Facebook Places actually helps Foursquare by popularizing the concept of checking-in and location sharing.
Foursquare is a location-based social networking website, software for smartphones. Users “check-in” at venues using a mobile website, text messaging or a device-specific application.
The company said that the social networking site is currently experiencing a15,500 sign up per day. Most analysts were surprised of this unexpected growth despite the recent launch of Facebook Places. Meaning, Facebook is helping Foursquare to get more traffic. In fact, the very day after Facebook unlashed Places, Foursquare saw the most new signups ever for a single day.
