Johnny Depp is slated to star in the Disney revamp of the Lone Ranger. The star has already appeared in other Disney Blockbusters playing the part of Captain Jack Sparrow, but for this film will lend his talents to the much beloved wingman of the Lone Ranger; Tonto.
Depp is part Cherokee and believes that this is an opportunity to turn the rather two dimensional previous telling of this character into a more rounded and important figure. Depp mentions that the film has humor in it and that the dynamic between the Lone Ranger and Tonto is quite different in this version.
Movie Critic, Lacey Payne of associatedpresses.org, had this to say about Johnny Depp’s role in the upcoming film:
“Johnny Depp’s relationship with Disney has proven to be a lucrative and successful partnership, judging by the three Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Depp does well at portraying a comedic role, and including Verbinski is sure to ensure that the movie fulfills its purpose of entertaining audiences of all ages. The positive portrayal of a Native American character is a refreshing change from the norm, and I believe that the plot, cast, and directors are guaranteed to make this movie a success and a pleasure for audiences to watch.”
