Crystal Bowersox was in fine form Tuesday evening for her finale performances on American Idol. She had dominated the proceedings going into round three with her renditions of “Me And Bobby McGee” and “Black Velvet.”
But if she had dominated before she sang “Up To The Mountain,” the song she will release as her first single should she win, Crystal Bowersox sealed the victory singing it. An inspirational song, “Up To The Mountain” evoked emotion from the single mother from Ohio. It exhibited her range and her vocal control. It was, in a word, entrancing. American Idol judge Randy Jackson said that Crystal Bowersox had her “best performance at the perfect time.” Ellen Degeneres said she could not compare Crystal to any contemporary artist. Kare DioGuardi said she could see that Crystal was “completely and emotionally invested in the song.” Simon Cowell said it was the “song of the night” and since it was the “final critique I’m ever going to give: Outstanding.” But was dominating the finale enough to get Crystal Bowersox the win? Was it enough to stop Lee Dewyze’s momentum going into the finale? Watch Crystal Bowersox as she performs Patty Griffin’s “Up To The Mountain (MLK Song)” for the American Idol finale.
