comScore: Twitter Overtaken MySpace For The Third Spot Among Social Networking Site, Facebook Still On Top

Twitter has finally overtaken MySpace, in terms of the numbers of unique people visiting the social networking site in US market, according to new data from market research firm comScore. The microblogging service has become the No. 3 social networking-type service in the world. Microsoft’s Windows Live maintained the second spot and Facebook still holds the top position.

According to data released by online monitoring firm comScore, Twitter had 96 million unique visitors in comparison to MySpace 95 million users who visit.

In the last year between August 2009-2010, Twitter had grown by 76 percent, whereas MySpace has declined by 17 percent.

The report also shows that Twitter manage to be part of the 50th most visited site on the list of web properties. Yahoo-owned sites topped the list, followed by Google and Microsoft sites in the second and third position respectively, while Facebook coming in fourth place.

Facebook was found to be the number one social network on the Web, almost 600 million monthly unique users. However Twitter grew more in the last year with Facebook growing only 54 percent in comparison to Twitter’s 76 percent.
