Most everyone who has ever heard anything about pirates knows the name Blackbeard and that he is the fiercest pirate to ever live, and that we even know where his ship is. Massive recovery efforts were recently announced in an attempt to raise the wreckage of the Queen Anne, Blackbeard’s flagship.
Friday the largest piece of the ship thus far was raised, and perhaps the most impressive; the 3,000 pound anchor. Archaeologists estimate that it will take approximately four years to restore the anchor before it can be put on display and have a plan in place to salvage as many items as possible from the wreckage, ranging from gold and glassware to cannons, rope, and shackles. The location of the vessel was discovered 15 years ago, and small recovery expeditions have been performed since then.
