Asperger’s Syndrome and High Functioning Autism Documentary
In a society that greatly values social skills and independence, living with an autism spectrum disorder is not easy. The world from the eyes of people on the spectrum is very different from what everyone else sees. Alyssa Huber, a young woman with Asperger’s Syndrome, recognizes this and wants to help others understand.
Alyssa is an aspiring filmmaker and college student from the Chicago area, and she is producing a documentary film about Asperger’s Syndrome and High-Functioning Autism. As an “aspie” herself, she sympathizes with others on the spectrum and wants to increase awareness by showing life from their perspective. The film itself will take a creative approach on the topic, utilizing the talents of multiple aspies and auties to create an informative as well as an entertaining film.
The planning and preparation is going well so far, but the biggest obstacle is funding. In February, Alyssa had launched a project on Kickstarter for fundraising, and the campaign ends April 1st. There are many who are already supporting the project and are looking forward to seeing the finished film, but it cannot be produced unless the minimum goal is met by the deadline.
