Actress Sandra Bullock, 45, bagged the MTV Generation Award at a star-studded ceremony of the MTV Movie Awards in Universal City, Calif. on Sunday. She created sensation as she celebrated the honor by snogging Scarlett Johansson, wife of her ‘The Proposal’ co-star, Ryan Reynold.
Betty White and Bradley Cooper presented the award to the lovable actress amid standing ovation from the audience. Johansson was also inexplicably present on the stage. On being asked why she was there, she explained she had come in place of her husband Ryan Reynolds who couldn’t make it for some reasons. She was expecting to see Bullock and Reynolds winning best kiss for ‘The Proposal’. Bullock and Johansson then proceeded to share an intimate kiss to the great shock and amusement of the audience. As a matter of fact, the best kiss award went to Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.
Speaking about the kiss, she pleaded, “Now that we have done that, can we please go back to normal.” Johansson is reported to hold a grudge over intimate scenes Bullock shared with her husband in ‘The Proposal’.
This was the second award for Bullock last week. She received the Troops Choice Award for Entertainer of the Year at Spike TV’s Guys Choice Awards on Saturday. That was the first time she was seen in public after her marriage with Jesse James broke.
With this honor under her belt, she joins the league of Tom Cruise, Ben Stiller, Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler and Mike Myers. She also happens to be the first female recipient of the award. During her 20 year career, Bullock has won many accolades. She bagged the Oscar for ‘The Blind Side’ and a Razzie for best actress for ‘All About Steve.’ She also has a Golden Globe in her coffer and won four previous MTV Movie Awards. Her movies have done business of more that $700 million all over the work in the past year.
“You’re a once-in-a-generation talent,” Cooper said, while announcing the award. “You inspire me with the ability to shine through any darkness, and congratulations on this award.” The tribute on her at the award ceremony highlighted her achievements during her long and eventful career. It showed clips from ‘Miss Congeniality’, ‘While You Were Sleeping’, ‘Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood’ and her other works.
Speaking after receiving the award, Bullock, wearing a black minidress, said that the Generation Award didn’t mean that she would clear the decks for newcomers. She, however, said she was here to stay. Reading out from a piece of paper, she said, “I am not dead. Number 2, everybody has cellulite, not just me. Paparazzi need more flattering lenses. Whoever established the high road and how high it was going to be should be fired. And I’ve never gone 14 days without showering, while chain-smoking while crying on the shoulder of my sweet aunt Ludie, because I shower twice a day, I don’t smoke and sweet Aunt Ludie died a year ago.”
